About CFSC.ca

CFSC.ca is an independent Canadian information and course-finder service. We help learners understand firearms licensing steps and find local safety training. This page explains, concretely, who runs the site, how facts are checked, where the money comes from, and how to report an error. Last reviewed July 15, 2026.

Who we are

CFSC.ca is an independent publisher. We are not the Government of Canada, the RCMP, a Chief Firearms Officer, or any provincial regulator, and nothing on this site is an official licensing decision. We write plain-language guides to the Canadian firearms licensing process (PAL/RPAL, the CFSC/CRFSC course, storage and transport rules) and run a directory that helps learners find a local safety-course instructor.

Revenue comes from two sources: instructors and course providers who pay for enhanced placement in the directory (see Advertising and listings below), and sales of a printed copy of the official student handbook (see Order the handbook). Neither funding source changes the factual content of our guides.

How we check facts

Every guide is written against primary sources - mainly the RCMP Canadian Firearms Program's public pages and, where relevant, the Firearms Act and its regulations. We link the specific RCMP page a claim comes from wherever one exists, and law-heavy guides carry a dated "Sources" list at the end of the article.

We follow a durable-claims rule: guides state facts that don't change often (the 28-day minimum wait between application and first licence, the 50-question/80%-to-pass written test, that a CFSC course report never expires) and defer to the RCMP for anything that moves - current fees, processing-time estimates, and similar figures are never stated as a fixed number in our guides; we link the official page instead. Every guide carries a "Last reviewed" date; a guide gets re-reviewed when we learn a linked source changed, when a reader reports something wrong (see Corrections), or on a periodic schedule as time allows for guides that haven't changed recently.

We do not issue licences, designate instructors, or make legal determinations. If a guide and an official source disagree, the official source is right - please tell us so we can fix it.

The sources our guides draw on most often:

Advertising and listings

Our instructor directory is built from public provincial instructor lists (see how the directory works). Instructors and course providers may pay for enhanced placement - a more prominent position or a "Featured listing" badge on a listing. Paid placement never changes what a listing says, and it is always visibly labelled: a paid placement in the directory shows a "Featured listing" badge on the row itself, never a disguised or unlabelled result. Paid placement does not buy editorial coverage, a better review, or removal of accurate information elsewhere on the site. All listings, paid or not, must be accurate and are subject to correction.

Corrections

To report an error, an outdated listing, or a broken link, contact us - tell us the page and what's wrong, and we'll review it. When a correction changes a factual claim, we update the guide's "Last reviewed" date so the change is visible. For official questions about your own application or licence, contact the RCMP Canadian Firearms Program directly rather than this site - we are not able to look up or affect individual applications.
